Cabernet Chocolate Cupcakes

Wine IN Cupcakes?! (Gasp!) Could there really be something THAT amazing? I am here to tell you YES… I did some research and came up with an easy (yes-EASY!) recipe for Silvan Ridge Cabernet Cupcakes!

Silvan Ridge Cabernet Chocolate Cupcake

I went in having absolutely no idea whether or not these would turn out. As you can see by the picture, they ended up being a major success. Not only do they look gorgeous, they taste amazing! Now here comes the easy part… I used a chocolate box cake! (But shh… you don’t have to tell anyone that!) All box cakes have you add water, oil, and eggs. I substituted wine for water and greek yogurt for the oil. I figured since wine has calories and water has none, I would make them healthier using greek yogurt instead of oil. Follow the directions on the box using the substitutions and you will have yourself some beautiful Cabernet cupcakes! Here are some step by step photos:

Here are all the ingredients I used.

1 Box Cake, 1 cup wine, 1/3 cup greek yogurt, 3 eggs

Every brand varies, so be sure to check the measurements on the specific box of cake you purchased!

Combine ingredients and beat until smooth

Check out that yummy wine on the right!

If you don’t have a scooper like this… get one!

Once you get them out of the oven you will be amazed at how yummy they smell. While they still taste like chocolate cupcakes, they have an amazing subtle taste of Cabernet and leave you wanting more!

Now for the frosting… I took the recipe I used off of Pioneer Woman. It is called “That’s the Best Frosting I’ve Ever Had” and it definitely lives up to its name. This frosting seems a little bit complicated, but I’m here to tell you it’s way easier than it looks! And the cupcakes are so easy, you could use a little bit of work for the frosting.

You will need 5 Tbls of flour, 1 cup milk (I used 2%), 1 cup butter,

1 cup of sugar, and 1 tsp of vanilla

Combine the milk and flour and heat until it thickens, stirring constantly

It will seem like forever, but after about 5 minutes it will look like this.

Then, take it off the stove and let it cool completely

While your mixture is cooling combine butter and sugar and beat until fluffy

(Your butter should be soft, thats how it gets so fluffy)

Once your heated mixture is cool, combine them all and whip!

It will end up looking like this…YUM!

Add frosting however you like, I personally like pipping it!

These cupcakes turned out better than I could have imagined! I’m not sure if it had to do with the wine, or the greek yogurt, but they turned out nice and moist, which is a major plus (nobody likes a dry cupcake!). Everyone who tried them loved them, even my mom and husband, and those of you who know them, know this is a BIG statement.

I would love to hear your feedback if you give these a try! I hope you love them as much as I do.

P.S. Pretty sure this recipe only works with Silvan Ridge Cabernet, so be sure to look for our label!
